Celebrate Placer County’s Pie-Oneering Spirit After a Visit to Legendary Ikeda’s

June 11, 2025

Ikeda’s is an icon (a pie-con, if you will) of delicious “orchard to fork” baked goods. Whether your tastes are more sweet or savory, Ikeda’s is the perfect stop. And since Ikeda’s is just off the I-80, it’s convenient for both travelers on a trip from The Bay Area to Lake Tahoe, and for those exploring all the sights of Gold Country. You can sit for a meal and enjoy the warm hospitality of their home-style restaurant or grab a few pies to go.

Auburn (the County Seat of Placer County) alone has countless excursions and adventures to explore.

Stop 1: Placer County Courthouse Museum, Auburn
5 minutes Southwest of Ikeda’s

The Ikeda family may be experts at serving up slices of sweet, but Auburn has had a decidedly salty past. Learn about local legends of the Gold Rush in the (free!) Placer County Courthouse Museum. Whether you’re with the family or exploring alone, the Placer County Courthouse Museum is full of weird and wonderful artifacts from the area.

It’s hard to miss Ikeda’s big ‘PIES’ sign, but for those who prefer your adventures a little more puzzling, you don’t want to overlook the Auburn Scavenger Hunt Walking Tour. It’s like a walking tour of Old Town Auburn… with just enough challenge to bring purpose and energy to the outing! Whether you’re with family, friends, a special someone, or solo, here’s nothing quite like the thrill of discovering hidden clues. You’ll be making memories while making your way through the delightful historic Old Town Auburn.

After a slice, you can practice your swing! Whether you’re a seasoned professional or a beginner, you’ll love the beautifully kept course of The Ridge. The course features local trees and subtly rolling hills – perfectly challenging and a wonderful walk as well! If this is a spontaneous detour inspired by your Ikeda’s stop, you may have left your golf clothes at home… but The Ridge Golf Course shop has you covered (literally and figuratively!). Book your tee time on the website – reservations are strongly recommended.

Stop 4: Totally Cool Gifts, Auburn
6 minutes Southwest of Ikeda’s

Source: Totally Cool Gifts

No need to resort to pie-in-the-face comedy after your stop at Ikeda’s, since Totally Cool is, as advertised, Totally COOL! Pack your sense of humor for this wild and whacky gift shop – If you love dad jokes, vintage candy and toys, miles of puzzles (metaphorically speaking), and all kinds of games, this is your place. It’s full of joy in every aisle!

Stop 5: Rappé Family Vineyards, Auburn
18 minutes West of Ikeda’s

Fancy a flight without leaving the ground? The Rappé Family Vineyard wines pair perfectly with Ikeda’s pie! Grab a pie to go, and enjoy the fresh air and a bottle of wine less than 20 minutes away! Tom and Lorrinda Rappé fell in love with their vineyard while traveling the region about a decade ago – relatively recently, by Auburn standards! Their love of the area runs deep, though!

Stop 6: Foresthill Bridge, Auburn
10 minutes East of Ikeda’s

As the tallest free-standing bridge in California, the Foresthill Bridge can’t be missed! It’s a dizzying 730 feet above the American River (gasp!)… But wow, what a view (once you catch your breath)! From below or above, the Foresthill Bridge is a marvel.

6 minutes Southwest of Ikeda’s

There’s something for everyone in Downtown Auburn, whether you love the natural scenic beauty of the parks or fancy some treasure-hunting in the incredible antique stores. While you’re in town, stop for a cocktail at The Station Public House, a local favorite hang-out.

Stop 8: Lake Clementine Trail, Auburn
11 minutes Southeast of Ikeda’s

One of the most beautiful lakes in the area, Lake Clementine is so peaceful and serene you can follow a single ripple across the water on a still day. Keep a sharp eye out for local wildlife, since humans aren’t the only creatures who appreciate this lovely lake. And as placid and peaceful as Lake Clementine is, the dam that formed the lake is bold, exciting, and dramatic. Bring your cameras, because this is a vision you’ll want to bring home.

Stop 9: Vina Castellano Winery, Auburn
13 minutes Northwest of Ikeda’s
