If you enjoy hiking, Talbot Campground may be perfect for you. Spend the night on the scenic Middle Fork of the American River and then head out to the Granite Chief area’s trail head in the early morning – which also provides hitching posts just outside of the campground. The beauty of this area will surprise you, Granite chief has many colorful rock cliffs and the views are excellent. After your hike, be sure to wade into the river to cool off.

Directions from Foresthill: Travel 36 miles east on Mosquito Ridge Road (forest road 96) and proceed to the campground. The campground is located five miles above French Meadows Reservoir.
