Explore the history of the DeWitt Government Center at this fascinating museum. Learn about the construction and use of the World War II Army Hospital, the site’s use as a State Mental Health Hospital, and it’s current use by Placer County. Visitors will learn how the Second World War affected the local community and get the opportunity to start their very own Victory Garden with a hands-on activity.

Meet the Z-Boys – a group of brash street kids from Venice, California’s tough Dogtown neighborhood who revolutionized skateboarding with an aggressive in-your-face style that shredded the competition and influenced today’s extreme sports. The Broken Arrow Skyrace features nine distances: a 46k, 23k, 18k, Vertical K, 11k, Triple Crown (the Ascent/23k/46k), the Iron Crown (IFC/23k/46k), the Iron Face Challenge, and a kids race. These races are unique in California as most of the terrain is above the tree line. Runners are treated to spectacular views of Lake Tahoe’s emerald-blue waters and Palisade Tahoe’s unmistakable high-alpine terrain. Elite and recreational participants run and then celebrate together with first-class food, craft beer, music, seminars, films, and fun activities for the whole family.

Eureka! The Gold Rush Museum is a family favorite. Learn about gold and mining with hands-on activities and fascinating exhibits. Walk through an interactive mining tunnel or try your hand at panning for real gold in the indoor panning stream. Visitors can learn how people traveled to California and what life was like in the gold fields. Then, visit with our partners from Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park and the State Indian Museum to learn more about the history of our area!
