In the 1920’s Placer County was the “Fruit Shipping Capitol of the World” shipping over 69 million tons of fruits and nuts from the county.
Due to topography and weather, Placer County is famous for its unique high quality fruit: peaches, plums, nectarines, persimmons, kiwi, strawberries, and citrus (Mandarin Oranges in particular).
Rice and the nursery business are the two top agriculture products in Placer County followed closely by cattle and timber.
Residents and visitors purchase locally grown in-season PlacerGROWN products at Foothill Farmers’ Markets and learn about buying directly from growers in the Placer County Agriculture Guide featuring a Harvest Calendar and Map.
Major yearly festivals supporting agriculture include Loomis Eggplant Festival, Mountain Mandarin Festival at the Gold Country Fairgrounds, The Auburn Harvest Festival in Auburn, and the Auburn’s Wine Festival…all things PlacerGROWN at Sierra College, Rocklin.
