Five wineries are listed currently in Placer County as members of the Placer County Wine and Grape Association. Each winery has its own parameters for touring and tasting. The best way to set up tasting and a tour is to call ahead and arrange your visit.
Arranging an individual or small group tour would be an interesting,
enjoyable trip through the Foothills above Roseville. Using Interstate
80 as the starting point , this would be a full day as the wineries
are not close together. But, by combining sight seeing, eating out
and wine tasting, one could enjoy a day in the hills. However, before
you leave, you will need a Placer County Map. The Auburn California
Welcome Center has them Local Chambers of Commerce have them. Your
local AAA has them. For more Placer County wine tours visit www.placerhillswinetour.com
Coming from Sacramento, leave I 80 at Loomis to find the Secret Ravine
Vineyards and Winery. 916-652-6015, www.secretravine.com.
Complimentary tasting by appointment.
Return to Loomis for a drive up Taylor Road, Historic Hwy 40, to Newcastle. Just North of Newcastle, still on historic 40, one comes to Ridge Road. Turn left on Ridge Road to Pescatore Vineyards and Winery, www.pescatorewines.com/, 530-534-7908.
Return to Hwy 40, Taylor Road, backtrack into Newcastle, cross over Interstate 80 to Indian Hill Road and follow directions to BRBOCAP Vineyards. 530 885-2216. They have table grapes and apples. Call first.
Tour into Auburn to the Old Court House, down Maple street, cross over Interstate 80 to Nevada Street. Up Nevada street, pass the Post Office and on to Mount Vernon. Follow Mt. Vernon to Mount Vernon Winery, mtvernonwinery.com/, 530 823-1111. Tasting room open from 11-5 Thurs through Sunday.
Now using your Placer County Map again, find Pine Ridge Lane. Chart your course from Mt Vernon Road and enjoy Uncle Charley at The Green Family Winery, 530-888-8866, www.unclecharlieswine.com.
On the other hand, If you are coming South on Interstate 80 from Nevada, drive into Auburn, find Mt Vernon Road on your Placer County Map and begin the tour.
