If your four legged companions were to pick one area of California that would be considered “Pet Heaven” Placer County would be that spot. From the flowing rivers, magnificent mountain peaks, lush green meadows filled with wild flowers, to trails with views that take your breath away you will never run out of activities to do with your tail wagging pals - dogs or horses. For the serious equestrians there is the annual rugged endurance mountain trail race, “Tevis Cup”, exciting for both participants and spectators.

As you wind your way up Highway 80 from Roseville to Tahoe City, there are many pet friendly parks offering manicured lawns, playgrounds (for the two legged kids) picnic tables, a cool sip of water and lots of room to stretch your legs and exercise your pet. A couple of the parks even allow dogs off the leash.

The diversity of Placer County is what sets this area apart from most of California. In Tahoe National Forest with 600 miles of hiking trails your dog will be doing flip-flops as he discovers most of his running is done off leash you can even take in a few miles of cross-country skiing on groomed roads and Nordic trails together. The 30,000-acre Auburn State Recreation Area is located along 30 miles of the North and Middle Forks of the American River offers activities abound for the two and four legged hikers.

Not a great outdoors-person? Then you might consider a leisurely stroll window-shopping in the colorful Old West towns. What better way to finish off the day with your dog or cat then a cappuccino or glass of wine on the patio of one of the many cafes. You’ll feel secure with your dog or cat most anywhere as pet clinics and grooming specialists are plentiful – even in the smaller towns.

Whether your coming for the day, a weekend or a week, you will never run out of things to do with your pet companion in Placer County and there are plenty of pet friendly places to stay - from camp grounds, to cozy cottages or motels. There are even many pet friendly fast food and sit-down restaurants at which to stop.
