In the l920’s Placer County was the “Fruit Shipping Capitol of the World” shipping over 69 million tons of fruits and nuts from the county. Due to topography and weather, Placer County is famous for its unique high quality fruit: peaches, plums, nectarines, persimmons, kiwi, strawberries, and citrus.
Rice and the nursery business are the two top agriculture products in Placer County followed closely by timber and the cattle business.
Residents and visitors purchase locally grown in-season PlacerGROWN products at twelve weekly Foothill Farmers’ Markets and learn about buying directly from growers in the 2004 Placer County Agriculture Guide featuring a Harvest Calendar and Map.
Major
yearly festivals supporting agriculture include the Roseville Strawberry
Festival, Loomis Eggplant Festival, Mtn. Mandarin Festival at the
Gold Country Fairgrounds, The Auburn Harvest Festival in Auburn,
Auburn’s Wine Festival, and the Placer Farm & Barn Festival…all
things PlacerGROWN at Sierra College, Rocklin.
